AutoSketch, Site Plans, and Timber Framing

I haven't posted in several days because I've been busy. I got the drafting software working last week and have been alternating between the tutorials and help screens, and some plan drawings I've started working on. I have a very draft version of the site plan done and a JPEG of it posted on the photos page. This plan is in the very early stages and will change a lot over the next few weeks. The house and garden footprint are on the plan roughly where they'll end up on the site, but their direction and orientation to the sun will change some, and possibly location too. My next steps regarding the site plan will be to take grid elevations across the whole site and use the data to create topographic contours on the plan. This will help me site the house and design the grading and drainage. I hope to complete the elevation survey in the next few weeks.

I'm also working on the timber framing plan so I can locate my load bearing columns and then design the foundation and column piers. Next steps from there will be to complete the foundation and grading plan, complete the floorplan, start the building elevations and sections, then start the roof framing, electrical, plumbing, and detail drawings.

This week I'll be helping my friend the architect with a hotel project so I won't have much time to post. But I will keep this blog updated as I continue making progress. Peace. - Rick
