We live near Circleville, and we've got a Jersey cow. I can tell you about our experience. I think if you add me as a friend on here we can send emails directly and set something up. - Edson

Yes, they do have to be bred. The gestation period is about 5 1/2 months. We would breed ours once a year, and milk them for 9 or 10 months, drying them off a couple months before the kids were due. We usually tried to have the kids born in early ...

How's everybody's garden holding up? Anything to donate so far? We're having a bad year so far. We've harvested just a handful of berries. We've got three apples total on our four trees, and no peaches. The tomatoes and peppers have been unhappy...

Edson replied to Susan's discussion 'Rice?'
Small Scale Grain Raising cites a December 1975 article from Organic Gardening and Farming magazine (and quotes extensively from it). I don't know if the technique described would apply to your case though. It has another section on wild rice (whi...

Thanks -- I love the idea of being able to connect with people who share my loves and concerns! I get tired of being the 'odd' one on my block/at my job. I actually got to give gardening advice to one of my neighbors today, and whoda thunk it??? Not me, that's for sure; the big reason for my success is all you guys are doing it too, it gives me courage and hope.
